The revitalization of the water channel on Jalan Palem I, RT 05/08, Petukangan Utara Urban Village, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta has reached 70 percent progress.
Water channels were so small
Field Coordinator of Pesanggrahan District's Water Resource, Halim said revitalization is carried out by widening the water channels as a follow-up to residents' suggestions.
North Jakarta Completes 10 Drainage Projects, Nine More Underway"Residents complained that the water channels were so small that they were prone to causing flooding when it rained," he said, Monday (10/19).
The revitalization used a 60-centimeter U-ditch measuring 145 meters in length. The channel is also equipped with a concrete cover to ensure the safety and comfort of residents passing through the area.
"The work is being carried out manually, involving five Blue Troop personnel. We are targeting completion this October," he added.
Halim urged residents not to throw trash into the drains. Clogging the drains can impede water flow and complicate cleaning, especially since the drains will be fitted with concrete covers.
"Hopefully residents will also take part in maintaining this water channel so that it continues to function well," he continued.
Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Azmi hoped the work can be completed immediately so that the channel can function optimally in anticipating flooding, especially ahead of the rainy season.
"Hopefully the work will be completed soon, considering the rainy season seems to be arriving soon," she admitted.
